Recognition at work – costs little and means so much

Today was a great day because I got to witness two leaders saying ‘thanks’ to the their team mates. I know its because its close to the end of the year – and these were Christmas celebrations – but the sentiments were genuine and the warmth generated palatable.

Why do we think it is only appropriate to say ‘thanks’ once in a while. A few lines in a card, a public recognition of a job well-done; it costs a little and means a lot. I watched people’s faces light up at being noticed and valued.

Leaders take note. The easiest way to motivate your staff is to let them know their contributions are valued.
